What are Dentures & Partials?
Both a full and partial denture can be helpful in restoring a patient’s smile when they are missing many or all of their teeth. Patients with advanced gum disease or who have a lot of missing teeth might benefit from a denture. Dentures are made to look like real teeth and provide you with the solid foundation to eat, chew and speak normally. You can expect the prosthetic appliance to last for about seven years before it should be replaced.
Why would Dentures & Partials be needed?
There are both cosmetic and restorative benefits to wearing a denture or partial. When you’re missing all of your teeth, it can be downright impossible to live normally and eat your favorite foods. You might be tired of feeling uncomfortable about your smile, and you avoid meeting or seeing people because of it. Dentures are designed to replace many or all missing teeth so that your smile looks natural and realistic.
Who is a candidate for Dentures & Partials?
To determine if you might need either a partial or complete denture, we will examine your teeth while you’re in the office. In many cases, patients who have advanced gum disease, loose and decayed teeth will benefit from having their remaining teeth removed and a denture placed. If you still have a lot of healthy natural teeth, a partial denture is best suited to your needs. Both prosthetic appliances are made for each individual patient so that it feels comfortable and looks natural.
What happens during the procedure for Dentures & Partials?
We start by taking impressions of your teeth, gums and mouth. These molds are used by industry professionals to create a new prosthetic appliance just for you. You’ll come in for a second visit to have the denture fitted and adjusted. Minor adjustments can be made in the office to improve the fit and feel of the new denture. In order to keep the denture looking its best, you should remove it each night to clean and store it away. Most dentures can last for five to seven years, and they should be replaced as soon as they show signs of wear.
